I feel change comin’…even though we are still battling the heat and humidity down here in the good ole South, I do feel a change coming. Today was my first day as a full-time university student, my first day as a part-time employee, and my first day as a CAB (Campus Activity Board) volunteer. After classes, work, and buying books, I headed over to Bayou Park and made what seemed like one million snow cones, mostly strawberry, for long lines of students. Wish me luck this semester!
As part of the Louisiana All State Youth Choir, I will be in Lafayette, Louisiana, along with the rest of my wonderful choir buds, to wind down the 2010 season. On Friday, August 20, the choir tour group will get together one last time for an incredible night of worship beginning at 7 p.m. If you are in the area, you do not want to miss this event.
At the opening ceremony of the Senior Olympic Games held on August 12, Hayley Masters sang the national anthem, followed by a greeting from Congressman Rodney Alexander. Amid high-flying balloons, banners, and music, the festivity brought many senior residents together for a grand time of socialization and competition. Games like Bingo, frisbee thrown, and even wheel chair races kept the hundreds of folks entertained throughout the day. The event also provided an opportunity for participants to showcase their creativity. The stunning display of paintings, hand sewn quilts, and more were available for viewing.
On Thursday, August 12 at 10 a.m., Hayley will be singing the national anthem at the opening ceremony of the Senior Olympic Games. The event is an opportunity for residents of area nursing homes to come together and compete in games, such as horseshoes, races, and more. It will be held at the Family Life Center on Glenwood Drive in West Monroe, Louisiana.
In a few weeks, I will return to a routine as I step onto the campus of ULM. Great news about campus life is that I have been accepted to serve on the campus activities board (CAB) and will be a ULM Scout! And to top everything, I will be working for the athletic foundation. Things are definitely falling into place for my first semester as a ULM WaRhAwK!
At 4 a.m. on July 15 in Tioga, Louisiana, along with the 2010 Louisiana All State Tour Choir, I will climb aboard a tour bus decked out with all the bells and whistles and head east. We will blast off the tour in Atlanta, Georgia and then travel to Jacksonville, Florida, on Friday. Next, we will be on our way to Miami, and after that, Fort Lauderdale. The Florida tour will then bring us to its center in Orlando, where we will spend a day in Disney World. Clearwater and Saraland will be host for the last two concerts in Florida. We will cap off the tour in Thibadoux, Louisiana on July 23. We are expecting great and mighty worship across this region as we minister in song. If you are in any of these cities, come on out for one of the most rocking choirs on the map!
In 24 hours, I will be standing on the platform, facing family and friends who will have gathered to witness the long-awaited marriage of my cousin, Brad Masters to Miss Patti Meyers. That’s right folks, they will tie the knot tomorrow at 2 p.m. at the Pentecostals of the Twin Cities. I am so excited to be singing a couple of songs that the bride and groom have chosen. It is going to be a beautiful occasion!
Louisiana Camp Meeting officially begins today! Just letting you all know that tonight I will be singing with LASYC at the ole Tioga campground. Come on out and get in on a fantastic night of worship with some incredible people! Preaching the Word will be Bro. Scott Graham…you do not want to miss!

I am having such a blast singing with the Louisiana All State Youth Choir. It is really rockin’ this year under the direction of Kevin Howard, Simeon Strickland, and Tevia Guidroz. Recently we went to Lake Charles for a concert, and it was standing room only. We sang at Louisiana Junior Youth Camp and will be singing at Senior Youth Camp and Camp Meeting. After that, it is TOUR for ten days!

Decisions, decisions…that is what I have been making a lot of the past few days. I attended PREP at ULM and am officially registered as a Toxicology/pre-Pharmacy major. And, yes, I screamed very loudly during the spirit competition (shhh…don’t tell my producer) so much so that our group won! After wandering around the campus marketplace, I picked up an application for the campus activity board and scouts. I am keeping my fingers crossed to be a part of one of these groups. I was really impressed with the mission of the Wesley Foundation and hope to be a part. Of course, I stopped by the music booth and am very excited about being a part of the ULM chorale. Two free t-shirts, a great schedule with no 8 o’clock classes, and a little warhawk facepaint later, I am now a university student. Wish me luck!
